THE ATSE CRAWFORD FUND FELLOWSHIPPIN VANNARO AWARDED 2008 CRAWFORD FUND FELLOWSHIP 12 January 2009
The Hon Neil Andrew AO FTSE, Chairman of the Crawford Fund announced today that Mr Pin Vannaro, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Maharishi Vedic University, Prey Veng Province, Cambodia has been selected to receive the 2008 Crawford Fund Fellowship. Mr Vannaro is a university education specialist and an agronomist with research interests in tropical forages, crops (especially rice) and vegetables. He graduated in agriculture at Maharishi Vedic University in 1998, and later completed a Masters degree at Chamroeun University in Phnom Penh. He has been employed at Maharishi Vedic University since 1999 and has been Dean of Agriculture since 2000. The university has 400 agriculture students. Mr Vannaro will spend 3 weeks in Australia working on the development and use of improved tropical forage plants for livestock production. Read full story... The ATSE Crawford Fund Fellowship was established in 2002 with the generous support of Dr Brian Booth AM FTSE. The aim of the Fellowship is to provide further training of a scientists in agriculture, fisheries or forestry from a selected group of developing countries whose work has shown significant potential. The training will take place at an Australian agricultural institution and will emphasize the application of knowledge to increased agricultural production in the Fellow’s home country. The Fellowship is offered annually to an agricultural scientist below the age of 35 years who is a citizen of, or who is working in, one the following countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, East Timor, Fiji, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Is, Tonga, Tuvalu and Kirabati, Vanuatu,Viet-Nam. |
