THE aUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY PROGRAMThe Fund’s Australian Capital Territory Program was established in 2006. This the Fund’s seventh State/Territory Committee. Its location in Canberra provides it with a particular opportunity to work with several Departments and agencies of the Australian Government including ACIAR (the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research), with a number of the peak bodies of Australian agricultural, forestry and fisheries industries, and with eminent researchers in scientific organisations and universities based in the nation’s capital. The geographic focus of the Program is Papua New Guinea, Pacific Island countries and East Timor. However, training activities in other countries are supported on a case-by-case basis. Training activities reflect Canberra’s strength in research on forestry, agricultural policy, economics, molecular biology, entomology and natural resources management. The Canberra Program also contributes to the public awareness-raising activities of the Fund, particularly its annual conference at Parliament House.
