In 2011–12, the medal was awarded to the outstanding agronomist, Professor Benjavan Rerkasem from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. Professor Rerkasem received her medal following her participation in the Fund’s Master Class in communicating with stakeholders. Professor Rerkasem was selected because of her leadership role in sustainable agriculture and her outstanding contribution to agricultural research and development

Professor Benjavan Rerkasem, an esteemed agronomy professor from the Faculty of Agriculture at Chiang Mai University recently received a special medal from the Crawford Fund in recognition of her ‘continued contributions to international agricultural research’ at a ceremony following the Crawford Fund’s Master Class in Communication to Stakeholders. Professor Rerkasem, an alumni of the University of WA, is held in high esteem for her leadership role in agricultural research and in sustainable agriculture, and is among the most cited scientists in Thailand in agricultural science.
