Burdon JeremyDr Jeremy Burdon
GRDC Board member and CSIRO Honorary Fellow

Dr Burdon has an international reputation in evolutionary biology, particularly in plant – microbe interactions as they apply to both crop protection and to understanding the structure of natural communities.

He was Chief of the CSIRO Division of Plant Industry for nine years, between 2003 and 2012. During this time, he developed extensive management and leadership skills in directing science and skills development in plant biology, with a particular emphasis on delivery of results to the agricultural community. Dr Burdon has been involved in developing strong collaborative interactions among pre-breeding agencies in Australia; and in generating new opportunities and building strategic partnerships with national wheat breeding companies and major multi-national companies.

His interests in agriculture span the range from mainstream western agricultural production systems to small-holder production systems in the developing world. He recently completed a 6-year term on the Board of Trustees of Biodiversity International. He currently serves on the Board of the Grains Research & Development Corporation and as the Chair of the Australian Academy of Science’s National Committee for Agriculture, Fisheries & Food.

Dr Burdon continues his research interests through an appointment as an Honorary Fellow in CSIRO.
