Sir John Crawford Memorial Address

“From Looking Down the Microscope to Looking Out the Window”

Ballroom, Hotel Realm, Canberra

The Sir John Crawford Memorial Address has been held annually since 1985 in honour of the remarkable Australian in whose name the Crawford Fund was established. Sir John contributed at the highest levels to the development of Australia and other countries, and passionately supported international agricultural research for development.

The Sir John Crawford Memorial Address will be presented by Professor Ross Garnaut AC, who worked with Sir John in many areas of development economics, including as a PhD student and colleague. Ross has had a career built around the analysis of and practice of policy connected to development, economic policy and international relations in Australia, Asia and the Pacific.

Ross is Professor of Economics at the University of Melbourne and former chairman of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research and of the International Food Policy Research Institute – in both cases succeeding Sir John as he did as Professor of Economics at the ANU’s Research School of Pacific Studies.

The Sir John Crawford Memorial Address is held at our specially styled networking dinner. We have around 275 booked for the evening, from a broad set of sectors and countries – it will be a tremendous networking opportunity.

During the evening we will announce the winner of the Crawford Fund 2019 Food Security Journalism Award.

The Vote of Thanks will be presented by Dr Madaline Healey, RAID Network Executive Member, and Crawford Fund mentor in Laos and former conference scholar.
